Main fields of research and expertise
Henri Robain got his PhD in 1989 from Paris 6 University and was recruited by IRD (formerly ORSTOM) the same year. He worked in France and in several foreign countries in Africa (Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Benin, Madagascar) and in Asia (India, Thailand, Laos). He his involved in M-Tropics CZO since 2003. His researches aim at developing the combination of near-surface geophysics and soil sciences to analyse the interactions between land use, land cover, soil organisation and water fluxes at small scales (plot, field, slope, elementary catchment). Such approach involves the measurement from surface of geophysical parameters (mainly electrical resistivity or conductivity) with different methods (ERT, FEM, TEM) and the establishment of relations linking their spacial and temporal variations with underground characteristics of interest (layering, clay content, porosity, water content and water fluxes).
